Comme tous les livres de cet auteur, il est magnifique! Par contre, je suis d ue de la quantit de dessins par rapport aux pr c dents livres...Another disappointing book that is overpriced. Another disappointing book from Kerby Rosanes. This book has very few illustrations, all single sided and somewhat boring compared to his other books. This book has the same problem as fantomorphia. Too expensive for what you get and the creativity isn't too good. If you want a good Kerby Rosanes book I would try animorphia, Mythomorphia or Imagimorphia. Those books are much better and you get more for the price.Habe die anderen B cher auch, und deshalb durfte dieses auch mit in die Sammlung. Mal was anderes als immer Bl ten und Bl tter.

The Life and Afterlife of Harry Houdini Free Pdf

ISBN: 1501137239
Title: The Life and Afterlife of Harry Houdini Pdf
Author: Joe Posnanski
Published Date: 2019-10-22
Page: 336

“Marvelously entertaining . . . Imbued with Posnanski’s infectious passion for all things Houdini, this is a rollicking look at one of the 20th century’s most influential and enigmatic entertainers. . . . Posnanski’s book is not just a biography of Houdini: it’s as much an exploration of why Houdini’s fame and legend endures, and how that legacy has inspired, confounded, and influenced generations of magicians and magic enthusiasts.” —Library Journal (starred review) “Wonderful . . . When a talented writer like Posnanski tackles a subject as endlessly fascinating as Harry Houdini, the results are, quite simply, pure magic.” —BookPage (starred review) “Enthralling . . . This is a first-class book, a subtle stretching of the biographical form that is also superbly readable.” —The Times (London) “Joe Posnanski has produced the most informative and moving book ever written about Harry Houdini. It separates fact from fiction but also tackles the larger question of why the great escapist is still so loved (and hated!) in the magic community today. The Life and Afterlife of Harry Houdini is a remarkable journey into the heart of Houdini World.” —John Cox, founder of “Wild About Harry” website “As wise in its insights as it is thorough in its research, The Life and Afterlife of Harry Houdini is more than just a terrific Houdini biography. It is also a book about how we create and regard legends. Like all essential cultural histories, it concerns itself not just with what happened, but with why so many of us have cared so much.” —Linda Holmes, author of Evvie Drake Starts Over “Whatever mystical inspiration drew Joe Posnanski to the story of Harry Houdini, readers will be forever grateful. Joe’s writing about the mysterious and mythical magician is touched by its own stunning magic.” —David Maraniss, author of A Good American FamilyJoe Posnanski is the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Paterno. He is a national columnist for NBC Sports and was a senior writer at Sports Illustrated from 2009 to 2012. In 2012, he was named National Sportswriter of the Year by the Sportswriters and Sportscasters Hall of Fame. Before joining SI, he was a columnist for the Kansas City Star for fifteen years, and was twice named the best sports columnist in America by the Associated Press Sports Editors. He is the author of four books and has been anthologized widely. He lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with his family.Award-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author Joe Posnanski enters the world of Harry Houdini and his legions of devoted fans in an immersive, entertaining, and magical work on the illusionist’s impact on American culture—and why his legacy endures to this day.Harry Houdini. Say his name and a number of things come to mind. Escapes. Illusions. Magic. Chains. Safes. Live burials. Close to a century after his death, nearly every person in America knows his name from a young age, capturing their imaginations with his death-defying stunts and daring acts. He inspired countless people, from all walks of life, to find something magical within themselves. This is a book about a man and his extraordinary life, but it is also about the people who he has inspired in death. As Joe Posnanski delves into the deepest corners of Houdini-land, visiting museums (one owned by David Copperfield), attractions, and private archives, he encounters a cast of unforgettable and fascinating characters: a woman who runs away from home to chase her dream of becoming a magician; an Italian who revives Houdini’s most famous illusion every night; a performer at the Magic Castle in Los Angeles who calls himself Houdini’s Ghost; a young boy in Australia who, one day, sees an old poster and feels his life change; and a man in Los Angeles whose sole mission is life has been to keep the legend’s name alive. Both a personal obsession and an odyssey of discovery, Posnanski draws inspiration from his lifelong passion for and obsession with magic, blending biography, memoir, and first-person reporting to examine Harry Houdini’s life and legacy. This is the ultimate journey to uncover why this magic man endures, and what he still has to teach the world about wonder.

Wonderful book about wonder And so many other things, too, as is so often the case with Joe's work. I wasn't sure what I thought of Houdini when I bought the book, and I'm not 100% sure now that I've finished it. But I think the beauty of the journey, not the final destination, is the point. That, and perhaps we'd all be better off not drawing stark conclusions about people, even our legends, maybe even especially our legends, based on the best of worst of them. Preserving a little wonder is good for us, even when we know things that chip away at that. This not something I'm likely to admit in general, but this book helped me get there. Not what you would expect. An offbeat but entertaining view of the life of Harry Houdini.Just enjoyable There's a tangible fascination and joy to this book. You get the feeling that Posnanski was smiling as he wrote this and it comes through. I highly recommend it.

Different from previous editions This is the first time a professor requests explicitly the new edition for a class and it actually makes sense.Missing pages The book was seemingly in good condition. I've realized that over 10 pages are missing in one chapter. Unbelievable that the book is freshly binded, yet missing content. Waste of money. No page number Do not buy the Kindle Version as it includes no page number but rather location numbers that in no way, shape, or form match the print pages.

Jessica Simpson is an international star and media darling who has taken the music, fashion, and entertainment industries by storm. Jessica burst on to the scene with her unmistakable voice and talents, she has since released 8 hit-producing albums and starred on the big and small screens. In 2005, she launched the Jessica Simpson Collection, now a billion-dollar global brand distributed in more than sixty-two countries and the most successful celebrity licensing brand in history. She is married to former NFL player Eric Johnson and is the mother of three incredible children. She lives in Los Angeles, California.

Jessica reveals for the first time her inner monologue and most intimate struggles. Guided by the journals she's kept since age fifteen, and brimming with her unique humor and down-to-earth humanity, Open Book is as inspiring as it is entertaining.

This was supposed to be a very different book. Five years ago, Jessica Simpson was approached to write a motivational guide to living your best life. She walked away from the offer, and nobody understood why. The truth is that she didn’t want to lie.

Jessica couldn’t be authentic with her readers if she wasn’t fully honest with herself first.

Now America’s Sweetheart, preacher’s daughter, pop phenomenon, reality tv pioneer, and the billion-dollar fashion mogul invites readers on a remarkable journey, examining a life that blessed her with the compassion to help others, but also burdened her with an almost crippling need to please. Open Book is Jessica Simpson using her voice, heart, soul, and humor to share things she’s never shared before.

First celebrated for her voice, she became one of the most talked-about women in the world, whether for music and fashion, her relationship struggles, or as a walking blonde joke. But now, instead of being talked about, Jessica is doing the talking. Her book shares the wisdom and inspirations she’s learned and shows the real woman behind all the pop-culture cliché’s — “chicken or fish,” “Daisy Duke,” "football jinx," “mom jeans,” “sexual napalm…” and more. Open Book is an opportunity to laugh and cry with a close friend, one that will inspire you to live your best, most authentic life, now that she is finally living hers.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY BESTSELLER • ECPA BESTSELLER • A story of love that won't let go—no matter what!

California’s gold country, 1850. A time when men sold their souls for a bag of gold and women sold their bodies for a place to sleep. Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal. Sold into prostitution as a child, she survives by keeping her hatred alive. And what she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside.

Then she meets Michael Hosea, a man who seeks his Father’s heart in everything. Michael obeys God’s call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angel’s every bitter expectation, until despite her resistance, her frozen heart begins to thaw.

But with her unexpected softening comes overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husband’s pursuing love, terrified of the truth she no longer can deny: Her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael does…the One who will never let her go.

A powerful retelling of the story of Gomer and Hosea, Redeeming Love is a life-changing story of God’s unconditional, redemptive, all-consuming love.

Includes a six-part reading group guide!

Powerful I read Redeeming Love based on my best friend's constant suggestion to do so. I rarely read anymore because I am too busy and know that if I start, I run the risk of not being able to put the book down if it is that good. But for some reason after my friend recently referred to the book's amazing character "Michael" during a conversation regarding the topic of marriages...I just went online and ordered it. It arrived on Sunday and I finished all 450+ pages by 7AM Tuesday morning. I thought the book was incredibly powerful. The [long] beginning is very challenging to get through (rough, tragic, disturbing) but I'm glad I stuck with it because I found myself---in the beginning the middle and end---weeping for the characters in the book and also weeping (in a good healing way) with how it made me look at my own marriage. The main characters are Michael, Angel, and God (though his subtle but main storyline is not introduced until Michael's is) . Based on reviews, a handful of readers missed the opportunity to see that Michael does not have to represent all men, and Angel all women. Some reviewers resented Angel being cast in such a horribly "submissive" position throughout. But first, these readers should remember this story takes place during the time of the goldrush when women were not treated equal and were in submissive positions...but second, readers should note that is not how God saw her. The storyline is not at all about women's rights but instead about God's love. The big point is that God will communicate to those [lucky people who listen for him] that He wants them----those who are still safely in the confines of his herd--- to stop at nothing to bring those who are not (those who are the lost sheep), back to him.Ironically, as it turned out, I identified more with Michael and his story...even though I am a woman. If you take this story only as a romance (as it is written), and don't realize that God's talking to / trying to reach these characters is a bigger storyline, then you miss the powerful message of this book.....that God's love is limitless and powerful...and unrelenting. He will never abandon you even when it may seem that way with certain trials you may endure. Redeeming Love conveyed just that, yet while gripping my attention the way any well-written captivating story would. One of the best books I’ve ever read One of the best books I’ve ever read. I read this book before I was a Christian and it stayed with me all these years. I’ve never forgotten this story. It moved me. I give this book to nonbelievers as a way to open their minds/soften their hearts. It’s a must-read for all people!! Definitely one of my top three favorite books of all time!!!Magnificent and inspiring I read for the pleasure of enjoying a good story. But this book is that and so very much more! It will guide you through a story of healing of spirit and hope for a future through faith in Christ and knowledge of his redemptive love, grace, and mercy. There are some books you read and forget. Then there are books you read and are inspired by. This book is that kind of book and more. I have read it at least seven times and each time I learn more about myself and Christ who carries me. Read this wonderful book and let God speak to your heart through it.

My Family and Other Animals (Macmillan Collector's Library) Download

ISBN: 1909621986
Title: My Family and Other Animals (Macmillan Collector's Library) Pdf

Gerald Durrell - naturalist, author, media personality, conservationist and founder of the internationally renowned Jersey Zoo. He was a passionate and persuasive advocate of the need for the conservation of animals and plants and their habitats. A larger than life character, he was a brilliant story-teller in speech and in print.

The inspiration behind hit family drama The Durrells.

Part of the Macmillan Collector’s Library; a series of stunning, clothbound, pocket sized classics with gold foiled edges and ribbon markers. These beautiful books make perfect gifts or a treat for any book lover. This edition features an afterword by Peter Olney, former Keeper of Birds at the London Zoo, and a distinguished ornithologist who was awarded the Zoological Society of London's Silver Medal in 2003.

My Family and Other Animals is Gerald Durrell's hilarious account of five years in his childhood spent living with his family on the island of Corfu. With snakes, scorpions, toads, owls and geckos competing for space with one bookworm brother and another who's gun-mad, as well as an obsessive sister, young Gerald has an awful lot of natural history to observe. This richly detailed, informative and riotously funny memoir of eccentric family life is a twentieth-century classic.

Bogged down in description I must admit, I only made it to page 35 but soon realized I was in company with people I didn't much like. The mother was likable, the others not so much with the mean-spirited Larry especially, who is super critical & voices his unpleasant opinion freely. The descriptions were a bit over-done, getting lost in all the adjectives and big words rather than what the folks were experiencing. I really didn't take to it, didn't like the characters, didn't like the tiny book with the tiny print & all in all, did not have a great experience. I figure by page 35, if I don't like the people & get tired of the over-done descriptions, I may as well put it down & find something else. I see other reviewers being trashed for having negative opinions about this book which I think unfair, unkind & unnecessary.Wonderful This was a wonderful book about a slightly eccentric English family that moves to a Greek Island. It is told by the youngest son. He is a naturalist, so much of the book is about the animals, bugs, and birds he encounters, as well as his family and neighbors. I don't usually like overly descriptive books, I prefer a little background and then get to the point, However, his descriptions are amazing and you can see what he is seeing. I can understand why many people were disappointed in the films based on the books, because I don't see how video could possibly capture the whole feeling of the book. I heartily recommend it.As Entertaining As The PBS Version, Yet Quite A Bit Different So It Makes Fresh Reading. Originally published in 1955, this is part of a group of books of that period that celebrated odd characters and an alternative childhood to the sterile conservative world of 1950s America and of course included "Auntie Mame", "Life With Father", and "Cheaper By The Dozen". LIke the others, although decades later, this first book of the "Corfu Trilogy" is now a British/PBS TV cooperative venture. While serving as much of the source for the TV show, this book alone still manages to be as different from the TV show as it is from the reality depicted in Haag's biography of the Durrell family "The Durrells In Corfu", which I bought along with "My Family And Other Animals". The writing is not great---apparently Gerry Durrell never went to school after the last effort, forced on him at age 9 or so, but it has a certain British sense of humor that is engaging. I enjoyed reading it, and am finding the biography just as entertaining. One can only wonder what might have happened if formal education and better discipline had played a greater role in the Durrell family's upbringing, but as they are all dead, and we are left with the rather fanciful story of their life on this enchanted island, in the sunset of it's pre-tourist idyll, we can only sit back and go along for the ride and it's a fun ride.
